What is BVLOS and why does it matter in 2026?

Beyond-Visual-Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) operations let a drone fly past where the operator can see it — the prerequisite for autonomous delivery, long-range inspection, and large-area SAR. FAA Part 108 (expected 2026) is the first rule that grants BVLOS at commercial scale without case-by-case waivers. Operators certified for Part 108 will be the bottleneck the entire industry hires against.

What certifications do my operators need?

FAA Part 107 remains the baseline Remote Pilot Certificate for any commercial drone work. Part 108 will add an advanced operator tier for BVLOS and autonomous missions.
